Our Recipients for 2023 – Jenna from Grand Rapids and Carson of Rochester

Jenna is a junior at Michigan State University pursuing a degree in accounting with a minor in information technology. On campus, she serves as  the secretary of the Accounting Student Association and is a member of the Women in Business Student Association. She recently wrapped up an internship with Grant Thornton as a sophomore rotation intern where she learned about the various service lines within public accounting. Next summer, she is looking forward to her upcoming audit internship at KPMG in the Detroit office. She plans to sit for the CPA exam after completion of her bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and she is excited to continue learning more about public accounting opportunities. In her free time, she teaches cycling classes and enjoys alpine skiing

Carson is heading into his junior year at Michigan State University studying accounting. He plans on graduating in the spring of 2025 and further pursue the MS of accounting, in hopes of becoming a Certified Public Accountant. Currently at MSU he is involved in the Residential Business Community, Psi Upsilon Fraternity, and plays on various intramarital sports teams. At his fraternity, Carson currently serves on the Board as the Philanthropy chair and partakes on their rush committee. During the summer Carson completed multiple courses and experienced his first internship at Magna International, where he worked on the Finance team. In his free time, he enjoys boating, golfing, and spending time with friends.

Our Recipients for 2022 – Laura from Howell and Jack of Midland
Laura is a senior at Michigan State University majoring in accounting. At MSU, she is involved with the Women and Minorities in Economics student group, the Marketing 250 Student Advisory Board, and the Accounting Student Association. Over the summer she will be taking courses and working part time for Broad College. Laura recently completed an internship with Deloitte in their Tax Consultant group and has accepted a full-time position to begin upon completion of her bachelor’s degree. She plans on graduating in May of 2023 and will then work towards completing the CPA examinations. In her spare time she enjoys gardening, knitting scarves to be donated, and reading.
Jack is a junior at Michigan State University majoring in accounting. At school, he is involved in MSU’s oldest all male, and fully student-run, acapella group – the Spartan Dischords. He currently serve the group as the music director and have previously served as the business manager. This summer includes working at Dow Chemical in the Financial/Statutory Accounting department. He previously interned at Plante Moran between January – April of 2022 and received a full time offer at the conclusion of that internship. He will be interning again with Plante Moran next summer. He is planning on graduating in December 2023 and hope to continues his education through their 5th year MS in Accounting program while studying and completing the CPA requirements.
Recipients for 2021 – Amanda of Northville, Jaclyn of Farmington Hills and Kyle of Commerce Township
Amanda is our first repeat recipient! This spring she has now graduated with high honors from Michigan State University with her degree in accounting. She also began the MS of Accounting Linked Program and will return to MSU in the fall to complete her Masters by Spring 2022. During the summer she will begin her studies for the CPA exams. After completing her Masters, Amanda will be moving to Chicago to start as an Audit Assistant at Deloitte. We wish her continued success!

Jaclyn of Farmington Hills, graduated with honors from Michigan State University with a BA in Accounting in Fall 2022. She will graduate with a MS in Accounting concentrating in Information Systems in Fall 2023 to pursue CPA certification. At MSU, Jaclyn works as a part-time Program Assistant for the Multicultural Business Program Tutoring Services where she previously worked as an ACC 201 tutor for two years. In addition, Jaclyn served as the Fundraising chair on the executive board for the Native American and Hispanic Business Students. This summer, she is completing her second internship with Deloitte Tax LLP in the Chicago office as a Tax Technology Consulting intern. Jaclyn has a strong passion for business programming and data analytics, and is looking forward to expand those skills. In her free time, Jaclyn enjoys traveling, spending time with her family and friends, and trying new foods.

Kyle is going into his 3rd year as an accounting student at the Broad College of Business at Michigan State University and plans on graduating in the Spring of 2022. At MSU he is involved with several student organizations such as the Accounting Student Association and the Associated Students of Michigan State University (ASMSU). He is currently working as the chief of staff for ASMSU where he manages over 40 student employees. Kyle plan is to continue at MSU to pursue a Master of Accounting degree and become a Certified Public Accountant. He will be Interning with Plante Moran this summer in their tax department.
Our Recipient for 2020 – Amanda of Northville

Amanda tells us about herself – I am an incoming senior student at Michigan State University studying accounting. At school I am involved with my sorority Pi Beta Phi, Women in Business Students’ Association, Accounting Student Association, and International Business Organization. I also work on campus as a student assistant in the Broad College of Business Academic Advising Office. I am planning on furthering my education at MSU through their MS in Accounting program in order to complete the requirements for CPA licensure. This winter I had the opportunity to be an Audit & Assurance intern with Deloitte in Chicago and will be returning full-time after completing my Masters. In my free time, I love to travel, watch movies, spend time with friends, and play tennis.
Our Recipient for 2019 – Lauren from Canton.

Lauren, is a sophomore from Canton, Michigan, with plans to graduate in Fall 2020. She is an accounting major in the Broad College of Business and has a minor in Spanish. She is a Resident Assistant, a member of the MSU Swim Club, and a volunteer for MSU Volunteer Income Tax Association (VITA). This summer, she has a tax internship with Deloitte and will spend a portion of her internship abroad in India. She also will be going on a study abroad to St. Petersburg, Russia, and taking finance classes. In her free time, she enjoys swimming, running, and getting coffee with friends.
Our Recipient for 2018 – Emily from Lowell.

Emily, from Lowell, MI, is graduating this spring with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and an overall GPA of 3.93. During her college years of study she has completed two tax internships at Hungerford Nichols CPAs + Advisors in Greenville and Masters Tax in Tecumseh. She is looking forward to this summer and following academic year at Michigan State University in the MS program where she will be specializing in Taxation.
Our Recipient for 2017 – Amanda from Royal Oak.

Amanda, from Royal Oak, will graduate from the Broad College of Business in Accounting this semester with an overall GPA of 3.95. During her undergraduate years, Amanda worked as an undergraduate research assistant in the Accounting department and completed an internship with Plante Moran in Southfield. She will be spending the summer completing an internship in Troy and taking sections of the CPA exam. In the fall, Amanda will be returning to MSU for the MS in Accounting program with a specialization in taxation and will also be working as the graduate coordinator for Accounting 202. She is looking forward to another year of learning with the wonderful faculty and students at Michigan State.
Our Recipient for 2016 – Jacquie from Rochester.

Jacquie, from Rochester, will graduate from the Broad College of Business in Accounting this semester with an overall GPA of 3.7. She will be spending the summer in Los Angeles, CA while completing an internship with Ernst & Young in their Tax Technology and Data Analytics service group. Jacquie will start her Masters in Accounting Program this upcoming fall at Michigan State University, with a specialty in taxation. During her undergrad, Jacquie has completed two internships with Plante Moran. Her first was an internal accounting internship in their Southfield, office, and the other was a busy season tax internship in their Chicago, IL office. Jacquie also attended two Study Abroad programs at Michigan State. Her first was an International Corporate Tour in Western Europe where she traveled to England, Germany, France, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Italy, and the Netherlands. And her second was a program conducted at St. Andrew’s University, one of the World’s oldest universities, in St. Andrew’s, Scotland – this was her favorite.
Our Recipients for 2015 – David from the Lansing area and Jake from Sterling Heights.

David – on the left, of Laingsburg will graduate from the Broad College of Business in Accounting this semester with an overall GPA of 3.7. He will be spending this summer completing an internship in Traverse City. In the fall of this year he will be staring the Masters of Accounting program at Michigan State University. Over the past four years he has held internships with Andrews Hooper Pavlik, Jackson National and Plante Moran. He says that at times it was difficult to manage going to school while working and in trying to keep his grades up. However, he felt that it was a very beneficial experience to have had. David believes that it has also helped him prepare for the difficult tasks which will be faced once he begins his career in Accounting after completing his Masters at Michigan State.
Jake, from Sterling Heights, is currently a sophomore accounting major at Michigan State University and a member of the honors college. He is a member of the Accounting Student Association on Campus and plans to apply for an ACC 202 TA position. He also maintains an 3.9 GPA and plans on holding himself to the same high standards throughout his undergraduate career. He alsoplans on graduating Michigan State with honors, gain acceptance to Michigan State’s graduate program, and then work towards a CPA certification. This summer he will be working full time at an insurance company and participating in numerous leadership camps hosted by the major CPA firms in the area. Hopefully from these camps, ha can secure an internship for the following summer. In his free time he enjoys golfing and skiing with family and friends as much as possible. He plans on being our first scholarship recipient to attend out annual golf fundraising tournament.
** At the annual Scholarship Awards Banquet this past April, we were pleased to see that our 2014 recipient Chad (pictured below) had again been awarded another scholarship! Congratulations to all of our 5 scholarship recipients!

Chad
I am currently a sophomore at Michigan State University majoring in Accounting with a minor in Political Economy. I stay very involved on campus between working at the Breslin Students Events Center, being a part other organizations, and maintaining a 3.9 GPA. I am the treasurer of two organizations, the Triathlon Club as well as Tower Guard, which is a sophomore honorary service organization that I volunteered 120 hours of my time to assisting students with disabilities. This summer I will be interning at the Van Andel Institute, a biomedical research lab, in their finance/accounting department in Grand Rapids. I plan to purse to masters degree at MSU also to then become CPA certified. My passions outside of school include marathon running, triathlons, and hiking.

Alisha
I am a third generation Spartan in my family and will be a senior in the fall 2013 in the Accounting program at Michigan State University. I also have an Agribusiness Management Specialization to add to my degree, with a 3.8 overall GPA. I grew up on a dairy farm and was highly involved in 4-H for about 13 years showing pigs, sheep, dairy steers, and goats over the years. This summer 2013 I will be interning with Pricewaterhouse Coopers in their Grand Rapids office. I am really excited about this opportunity because I am looking forward to applying what I am learning in the classroom to real life situations with clients. Also, in my spare time I enjoy running and hanging out with my family and friends.
Jennifer,
I am currently a sophomore accounting student applying for the Broad College of Business this semester. I have set many large goals for my future to become involved on campus and gain internships to prepare myself for a job in my field. Next year I plan on applying for a position as an Accounting 202 assistant as well as an e-board member for the Accounting Student Association. I’m looking forward to searching for an internship next summer to begin my experiences towards a position at a large corporation. My futures plans involve beginning a master’s program here at Michigan State University and earning my CPA certification. My outside interests include playing the guitar and piano.
